One of Gregory County's first two settlements, Fairfax began as a trading post established when Fort Randall closed.

Bethlehem Cemetery	Along Highway 18 east of Fairfax,
Scalp Creek Recreation Area	Near Scalp Mountain where evidence of a battle was discovered, boat ramp, picnic area, beautiful scenery.  Lewis and Clark found a petrified plestesaurus near here.
Fort Randall Church	Along Highway 18, east of Fairfax 20 miles; Church was built in 1856, Fort was decommissioned in 1890.
Military Cemetery	Military presence in area was to oversee The Great Sioux Nation which stretched to the west. Cemetery is along Highway 18 at Fort Randall Dam.
Fort Randall Dam	This dam on the Missouri creates 107 mile long Lake Francis Case.
